Tips, Ideas and DIY methods

The images we are working on are similar to memorial statuary sometimes found in weathered cemeteries or historic gardens.  It points to the value of our heritage, our elders and the places we call home.

Many of the sculptural monuments will be constructed with light weight foam insulation.  We will be making use of crash and dent materials that would otherwise be headed to the landfill.  The foam is good because it’s weather proof, can be transported easily and weighted down with water jugs.

Other materials are welcome: just keep in mind transportation issues, having the object hold up in weather etc.  However–we are also looking into indoor sites for some installations.  Chime in with your ideas!

DIY idea for all participants:  any iconic object–from children’s shoes to an oil lamp, to traditional baskets and old frames–many “ready made” objects can be incorporated into these sculptural forms and painted to look weathered.
