Writing in Stone is a large-scale collaborative art installation that will take viewers through a setting of towering monuments, painted as if by the soot of ages, with trailing vines and gathering moss. The monuments honor transformative ideas and events from Wisconsin’s past in a traveling exhibit from October 4, 2016 to November 2018.
Writing in Stone expresses the belief that these ideas themselves are monumental, and that the wisdom of our ancestors can offer powerful inspiration to us today. As viewers walk among the monuments pondering engraved texts, historical figures come to life through voice recordings, photographs and live performances. Viewers encounter speaking trees and sounds that seem to come from another age; a wood thrush calls, wind rustles the forest canopy, an elder begins to speak.
I work with clay, mainly functional and I can do carpentry as well. Let me know how I can help.
Curious and kind hearted event!
Great idea Terese, I look forward to seeing some interesting pieces!
Thank You Theresa… This is, and will be a great project. I’m going to turn my mind on and tune in to the spirits.. Sundance was amazing and has put my mind in a calm , yet intense place to where I seem to go back into the trees, the land and sacred places.. I hope to get a piece of artwork together for this project. Peace n Love
This founds staggering. Please keep us all in the loop and tell us what you need as this goes along. It’s a profoundly beautiful conception and only you could pull it off.
